   David’s Stratford Season 2007

Oklahoma

theatre critic Toronto Star
Oklahoma! is one of the most bountifully blessed shows the festival has presented in years, with a superb cast (Dan Chameroy, Blythe Wilson, David Keeley and Nora McLellan head the list) as well as inspired direction and choreography from Donna Feore (until Nov. 4).

Oh, what a beautiful production
David Keeley does a major job of reclamation with the villainous Jud, presenting him as a wounded man of tortuous complexity whose feelings haven't been understood by society. When he finally erupts into violence it's perilously close to the mass murderers who haunt our headlines these days.

"Keeley's Jud is a complex creation, a lonely outsider who's mocked and ridiculed by society, stoked by anger, insecurity and a deep desire for acceptance. His solo number, Lonely Room - a dark, melodic counterpoint to the cheery major chords of the other numbers - is an unheeded cry for help, and a showstopper

My One and Only

Not much to say about Mr Keeley, but the reviewer liked the production
"....director and choreographer Michael Lichtefeld has delivered a relentlessly clever and playful staging of My One and Only...."

Oh, and the villain, a nefarious Prince Nicolai Erraclyovitch Tchatchavadze (played by a consistently scene-stealing David W. Keeley), gets his comeuppance.

David’s view
Yes, both shows have been very well received. I am particularly proud  of Oklahoma. I don't have any photo's as yet but some reviews may have them. If I see any I'll pass them on.
Cheers,
David
And
Yes, having a great season at home. The shows are both very successful and a pleasure to be involved with.
16 Feb 2007 As Shirley was wondering how David was coping in the snow, and asked me to ask him, I did. I asked about the weather and hoped it didn't affect rehearsals.

Hi Jill,

Winter is definitely here. A lot of snow and we have been in a deep freeze for about three weeks now. Sitting about -10 to -20 most days. Then you factor in the wind chill.... it's just cold.

No, rehearsals have not been affected. Great cast. Really enjoying the company and the fact that I can walk to work.
Cheers, David

"Everything is going very well at Stratford. The shows are in great shape. We are starting to add technical elements now, lights, costumes, etc. so it is getting very exciting. Our first preview of Oklahoma is April 10. My One And Only doesn't preview until May. Loving walking to work. Every morning when I leave for work I pass our two cars in the driveway and smile to myself thinking that I don't need to get in them today. Our carbon footprint is very small at the moment.

Porn star name's eh? With that formula mine would be Lady Snow. But there's another formula where you use your first pet and the first street you grew up on. So then mine would be Lady Fuller. I guess I could use either if I ever chose to get into said business."
Those of you on here who don't belong to The Paul Gross Corner wouldn't know what David means by the last paragraph. Paul added a fun answer to a question he or Penny made up, asking what his porn star name was(Pet's name and Mother's maiden name) so now David's joining in the fun. LOL!
16th April 2007

Hi

Yes, we had two previews of Oklahoma last week that went very well. The show is in very good shape and the audiences are loving it. We are still rehearsing though. Worked until 10:30 Saturday night after a preview in the afternoon. Fixing, cleaning, getting notes. It's an ongoing process until the show opens which won't be until the end of May.

Added to the fact that we are rehearsing My One and Only at the same time, to say we are busy would be an understatement. But I love it. The shows are both so different and I love to be busy. We don't preview My One...until May 12th so there is a lot of work to do on that one yet.

That's all the news for now.
Cheers, David
