Questions and Answers for David via e-mail
Julie from Canada:
"Hey! Nice of you to gather questions from the group. I have one, but it might take too much time to answer, so I'm not sure if you'll want to include it. Lately I had a chance to ask some Canadian celebs about their favourite Canadian novels and I would like to know Mr. Keeley's five (or so) favourites Thanks and regards,"
DK: Hi Julie, My favorite Canadian novel is Anne Marie Mac Donald's ' Fall on your Knees' It's an extraordinary piece of writing filled with incredible imagery, heartache; it's unmatched. It's been a number of years since I've read it but I quite liked Timothy Findlay's 'Not wanted on the Voyage'. Michael Ondatje's 'The English Patient' is wonderful and I felt the movie was quite good. 'Alias Grace' by Margaret Atwood transports one so precisely into another time it is quite magical. It's not Canadian but I just finished Jonathan Safran Foer's novel,'Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud'. Having been in New York; I was actually at the corner of 5th and Broadway when the second tower fell on September 11/09, it is a book that helped me try to deal with that horrible day. It is quite an exceptional piece of writing and I think it will change the way in which we look or should I say read novels. Happy reading, David

Janet of NYC:
"Since I am so anxious to get back to Stratford and see a few of my favorite actors and actresses, of course I want to know when Mr. K will be back there and in what?"
DK: Hi Janet,I don't have any immediate plans to return to the Stratford stage. I am having a great deal of fun and really getting an opportunity to spread my wings as an actor doing a lot of different film and television roles. But you never know. Cheers, David
***
Shirley from USA: "
I agree with asking him when/if he's going to appear in Stratford (or anywhere else that we could see him). It would be great if someone could let us know when he's done a movie or some such that we should be on the look out for. We are the frontline of his fan base, after all."
DK: Hi Shirley, I don't have any immediate plans to return to Stratford. In regards to upcoming projects because they are films it is kind of hard to know when they will be released. I shot two short films this year that will be screened at the festivals. I have a regular role on Ken Finkleman's new series, 'Hotel' that will probably begin airing on CBC sometime in the New Year. That's all I know right now. Cheers, David

Dominic, UK:
" I would very much like to ask Mr. K. about his songs on Love and Carnage. Many of the lyrics have a religious theme to them. Is this because you and Mr.G. are religious, or does the subject just interest you both, and if so, why? Thank you kindly."
DK: Hi Dominic, To tell you the truth I never realized they were so religious. But looking back I guess you're right. I don't know why. I was raised Catholic although I'm not practising anymore. Not that I'm an atheist but I have drifted from institutional religion. I guess I'm interested in the age old questions of 'why we are here. Is there life after death. What is our purpose. The balance of good and evil in everyone and how we manage that.' It fascinates me and through song I am able to thus, 'hold the mirror up to nature.' Hope that helps answer some of your thoughts. David

Joy, UK: "Please can you ask him, "What kind of books do you like to read? Do you have a preference for fiction, factual biographical etc? Many thanks for doing this and a big kiss from all.
DK:. Hi Joy, I go through fits and spurts of reading. After a book of fiction I tend to need to read something historical or maybe just some poetry. A different format from the novel. I think it's so I can process the book that I've just finished. Cheers and a big kiss right back at you. David

Felicity from Wales has a few Christmas questions to ask:
“Where is your favourite place to spend Christmas, at home in the snow or on a nice warm beach somewhere?"
DK: Hi Felicity. Definitely at home in the snow. I love the winter.
***
"What type of presents do you like to give and what do you like to receive?"
DK: I like to give and receive small personal gifts that one would have for the rest of their life. Although dark chocolate is also good.
***
"Who cooks the Christmas dinner? Do you prefer a houseful of people helping you to celebrate or a nice quiet family day?"
DK: I usually do the big part of the dinner. Our door is always open and we love it when people drop in. The more, the merrier.
***
"How computer/internet savvy are you? Are your kids willing to teach you or do they groan like mine when I ask them what that strange error message"
DK: No, I'm not computer savvy. But my kids are quite willing to help me. Thank god or I'd never get anything done.

Jill: "As Paul has made a public announcement of his forthcoming film "Passchendaele" have you any idea as to whether you may appear in it yet, please? Also, are you a fan of classical music, and who is your favourite composer if you are?"
DK: Hi Jill, As of yet no offer has been made. Paul and I have spoken and if I'm available I'm sure I'll be in it in some capacity. I'm not a student of classical music but I do enjoy it. Carmina Burana is one of my faves. I tend to lean towards the smaller works. I guess what I mean to say is string quartets as opposed to the full orchestral pieces.
